About the Society
The Eldridge Society was formed in 1976 by a group of people who had a
vision - to form a meeting place for neighbors to gather and share their ideas
about how to improve and maintain their historic neighborhood.
Today, the society, like the neighborhood, is made up of people of all ages and
walks of life who share an intense interest in exploring the history of their
neighborhood and their individual homes, whether simple or palatial, and who
share a commitment to preserve the district's history, beauty and gracious
ambiance. During our monthly meetings, neighbors visit with one another,
discuss neighborhood concerns, share restoration tips and enjoy participating in
organized programs.
The Eldridge Society has two main sources for raising funds. On
alternating years we sponsor Home Tours and a Holiday House. The
proceeds from these events have gone toward the Summer Concert Series at
Elizabeth Park, as well as the refurbishing of the bronze fountain and
construction of the
gazebo at the park. Funds raised have also contributed to annual tree
plantings, improvements to Carl Lobe Park and the
Columbia School grounds, and construction of a monument of the historic
district marker.
We invite you to join any of our meetings on the second Tuesday of each
month, September through May, at various neighborhood homes. For
further information on the Eldridge Society, please contact the
President, or any club officer.
